Blessings from the Lord - 3/24/14

Good morning!
I am having a very happy Pday! Elder Badders ist wieder gesund! (He is healthy again).  And I am also doing well.

Today we aren't planning on doing too much! The weather isn't too good, sadly! (We were going to play basketball but it's hailing!).  But I will get another Pday in, even if I am transferred. If I am, I will be sure to do something awesome. I might be transferred! I think it would be cool to go, but I wouldn't mind it at all if I stay.

Church was good. The coolest thing happened. I was sitting with family S and entertaining the kids before the meeting, and right as Sacrament meeting started, one of our investigators, P, walks in and sits next to Elder Badders. We were totally not expecting it, but we were praying that we would have better contact with him and that he might have interest this last week. So that was wayyy cool! He wants to meet really bad but is really busy. We didn't even commit him to come to church this week - he just showed up. We are so excited to meet again. We will meet with him not this week, but the next one!

We met with Dr. S again and talked a lot about charity and scriptures. He really loves to read his scriptures now and is starting to understand that it is important to know whether or not they are true, and that he can pray to find out. So that is awesome!

We will be meeting with H this Tuesday after we have District meeting. She is the HQ referral, so we are way excited about! She seems to be really interested.

Germany is great. We have some pretty cool appointments and a great week lined up. We will be having an Aus Tausch on Wednesday. Elder Spencer will be coming to Tübingen, and Elder Badders will be going to Esslingen. We are planning on home teaching with Brüder S during our Tausch, so that will be cool.

We are also wayyy excited about the Finding Day on Saturday. We have invited single adults and members from 5 different stakes, and we will have over 60 missionaries running around talking to people, handing out balloons, holding signs, and teaching people about the gospel. It will be tons of fun. It is after transfer calls that morning, so it will be cool to see where everyone is going and discuss a little!

I am doing great and the work is awesome. Really excited for this next week and can't wait to see whether I will stay or leave. Love you, Mama and thanks for all you do! You are the best! I hope you have an amazing week.
Du bist die beste Mütter der welt!

Finding Day & Blessings - 3/19/14

Kircheim, where we had our Finding Day

Hey there!

This week has been pretty good! It has been going pretty fast! Sorry that I was not able to write yesterday! Elder Badders ist krank geworden (he got sick) so we were not able to write. We basically stayed home the whole day and I got in a good 14 hours of personal study. Which was really good! I finished the Book of Mormon again, and now I am starting to read it only in German. Plus I'm reading the Old Testament in English. Yay, you did get the package! And thanks so much for the package that you sent me! That was awesome as well. I got it on Thursday! I am glad that you like the socks! Haha - I'm glad that you ate some of the chocolate as well ;)

This week was good! And we're just sending emails for Pday and shopping for food. Elder Badders still needs his rest so we aren't doing too much.  The weather was pretty good this past week!  Except it rained on the weekend - I think it was Saturday. I am still feeling great, which is good!

Haha, that is pretty funny about your class. You're right, it is always good to have some activity for them to do that will have their attention and keep them busy. We actually were asked to go into our Primary on Sunday (without notice) and hold pictures of different people who were witnesses of Christ, and then explain about who they (or we) were. I got Thomas, an apostle of Jesus's, who saw Christ after the Resurrection. So I explained myself as Thomas. Our Primary kids are so funny!

Our investigators are good! But we didn't really meet with any of them besides Dr. S this last week. We did a lot of helping the sisters mostly. Sister Smith went to the doctor, and I gave her a Priesthood blessing last week. Then the next day, the sisters called us to ask if we would give a blessing to one of their investigators. So we were there for their lesson with him, and also gave him a blessing for the sick. After that, they asked if we could joint teach for another investigator that night, so we went over there, found out that he was sick as well, and gave him a blessing. So we ended up getting to exercise the Priesthood a lot this week, which has really been awesome.

Dr. S is doing well! We met with him and really had a spiritual lesson on prayer and the Holy Ghost. We read in 3 Nephi 13, where Jesus teaches the Nephites the Lord's Prayer, and commited him to reading it and also Moroni 7 before we meet next time. He is excited to read and pray about the passages and then discuss next lesson.

We did get in contact with the HQ referral! She is awesome and we will be meeting with her next week at the church. We are excited about her becoming a new investigator.

We also have this awesome kid in our church who is around 17, who is obsessed with missionary work. He is the one who gave us E to teach. Apparently he has 5 people in his town interested in learning the gospel from us now. So we are going to go over there in a few weeks, teach E, then the 5 other people. This kid is awesome!

We also had an Austellung in Kirchheim this last week for our "Finding Day" in Esslingen. An Austellung is like a booth where we talk about the gospel and have pamphlets and copies of the Book of Mormon in various languages to hand out, and  the members help us too. So that was fun. I gave out 2 Books of Mormon there!

After the Finding Day we went over to Sister R's home. She is a member of our ward who was having a birthday. She wanted us to come over, as she was inviting friends  (who were not members) over for her birthday dinner. It was really fun and we chatted a lot with people! They live near Nagold, in a town called Altensteig. I will send some pictures.  So we did have a pretty busy week!

Yeah you know your schedule, Mama! Transfers are coming up, aren't they? And oh, something cool that we are going to do after the Transfer calls on the 29th, is  we are having a Dual Zone Finding Day in Stuttgart...meaning the missionaries and youth and members from all of the two stakes are going to be in Stuttgart, doing kind of what we did in Kirchheim. Except with more than 60 missionaries! They tried it in Switzerland and gave out over 100 Books of Mormon. We are way excited for it!

All is well here! We are doing great. And thanks for the package and all that you do for me. You guys are the best! Love you so very much! Hope that you all have a wonderful week!

Love,
Elder Ridd

The Work Progresses - 3/10/14

Tübingen
Hey Mom & Pops! We actually were not able to go to the castle this week because everyone wasn't able to make it. So we are planning on going another time - sad! But this week was still pretty awesome!

And no - I don't think that they have Daylight Savings Time in Germany, as I have not touched any of my clocks. Well, at least I hope that they don't do it or I have been off an hour, haha. Tübingen is awesome! It is getting way warm here and the weather has been spectacular. It is way sunny and it feels like summer today.  There are people out everywhere and the town is definitely alive.

I am feeling much better! Glad that the cold is finally gone.

M, our new young adult member, is doing amazing! We have seen him several times this last week, which has been pretty cool!

We did not get the chance to meet with P. She is hard to reach lately. We called her a few times and nothing. I don't want to bug her but I think we will make her brownies this week and drop them by or something and see how she is doing.

Bruder A is doing great! We had a lesson with him again on Saturday. We taught it all about recognizing the Spirit. He was way interested and we shared some more personal experiences and he knows that he wants to be baptised soon. I think he is starting to understand how the Spirit works more, so we are way excited.... Except for the fact that he will be going back to Austria this next week for awhile! Dang!

And E (a young adult investigator) is doing pretty good. We didn't get to meet with her this last week because she has been working a lot.  No, she doesn't go to college, but she works at a hotel in a town called Albstadt. We do have a few members going to the college. Dr. S is going there. And yes, I have heard that Tübingen is one of the best colleges in Germany, especially for its medical program!

The Aus-Tausch was great! Esslingen is about a 45 minute train ride from Tübingen, not too far. We went by to visit some less active members in the area for a good amount of time, and when it was dark we went back to the Esslingen 4-man apartment, had German study, and then ate dinner. It was pretty fun! The next day we just did studies in the morning in Esslingen, then Tausched back to Tübingen.

For workouts, we have weights. A barbell (one of the big long bars), and we have 2 20KGs, 2-10 KGs, so in all we can put around 165 lbs on the bar. That's pretty good. We also just found a cord to our rowing machine. So now we have been rowing on the rowing machine as well, which I am starting to love. We also have one dumbell with around 30 lbs on it. We have been running all day today, so that has been nice. Sadly, we do not have a pull up bar. I would have bought one by now if our door frames could support one. Maybe the next apartment!

Church was really good ! We actually had Gemeinde Konferenz, or Ward Conference, so we didn't teach any classes! They had some recent converts share conversion stories and it was really good. They seem to be very focused on missionary work here as a stake theme, so that is really cool! Another thing that was great was that afterwards we had a Gemeinde Essen (basically a ward lunch). We ate a lot of food there - that is one of the reasons we have been running all day, haha.

We don't usually play basketball with the young men, but when we are there and they are playing basketball we do! It is a lot of fun. The chapel isn't that big, but they have a hoop out back, which is where we play.

Some other cool things that we did this week were eating at Dr. S's. He made us awesome Chinese food again from his province in China. This guy is way cool! He was planning on coming with us to the castle the next day, but his professor emailed him and said that he had to come and watch him perform surgery. So he couldn't and we didn't go :(  He was so sorry - he wanted to go pretty bad, so we will definitely invite him again when we do decide to go.

We also ate with all the youth at the family A's home. It was really good food! It was really cool and M was there too. I totally forgot to take pictures of it -  woops. It was the same food that I had with them the first time I was there and she sent you pictures of it. After we ate, we had a lesson with Bruder A.

We also ran into the family S when we were in Reutlingen one day. They were like, "Elders, come with us! We will take you to lunch!" They kept insisting, so we went with them and ate some fish at a place called NordSee. It was really good! All of their kids were with them and it was really cool. Our ward is the best in Tübingen!

Anyways that is all that has really happened here! Love you too! Hope you have a great time in Cancun! I bet it will be tons of fun - I'm jealous!

Ritter Sport Chocolate Store & Museum - 3/3/14

Elder Badders and Elder Ridd at the Ritter Sport (Chocolate) Store in Waldenbuch, Germany
Cocoa Tree!
Ritter Sport Store
Helping move the Family D. out of the area. Sad day - there are awesome!
Hey Mama!
Today it's going pretty good! However, I'm fighting yet another sickness (cold/sinus infection). Not fun! And I know right? Almost 5 months already? Whatttt? Yeah, that is already almost a fourth of the mission. Pretty weird! And Stake conference was definitely way good!

Church was pretty good! Fast and Testimony meeting was great. Bruder A was there and the only thing that he needs before baptism is to feel the Spirit when he prays. The cool thing was, everyone that went up to speak was talking about how they felt the Spirit and got an answer to their prayers from the Holy Ghost. It was awessssommee!

Ritter Sport was great! We went with M, our new convert, and we went through the museum. It was definitely way cool. The chocolate there was way cheap too, so expect a package with a ton of chocolate in it coming sometime in the future. I sent it off this morning; also your birthday gift is in there. Dad's too. Haha. Woops - a little late. They do make all sorts of chocolate as you will see! We took the bus to M's house and then we took the bus from there to Ritter Sport - which didn't end up being too far away. And the young man in the ward was unable to go as he and his family went to Paris this weekend and he needed to pack. It is so funny how easy it is to go to a place like Paris when you are in Europe. They are just a "short" drive away - everything is so close here.

We are planning on going to the most famous castle in our mission this week - Schloss Lichtenstein, which is in our area. We are going with an investigator and with some more missionaries from our zone. I will take plenty of pictures to show you guys!

We did get to talk to P on the phone and she wants to meet with us this week. So that will be fun! haha. She wants to take us to her land that she owns pretty closeby which would be cool as well!
Look, Mom - I ate chocolate!
Town of Waldenbuch - home to Ritter Sport (chocolate factory, store & museum)
Dr. S is doing great! He is just waiting for his professor to read his final paper and then he gets to submit it to the college, wait a few months, and finally go home to his family in China as a practicing Neurosurgeon. We taught him the plan of salvation this week and he didn't really understand all the points like we thought he already did, so we went over that for awhile! He is still so fun to meet with and he is so cool. Love this guy. We also will be meeting with him on Friday and he is also going to the castle with us on Saturday. So you will get a lot of pics with him in them this next upcoming week!

Bruder A is doing great as well. We thought he would be ready for baptism this lesson but he wasn't quite there. The only thing he needs is to feel the Spirit while praying. He knows the Gospel so well already, and he knows deep down it is true; he just needs that personal confirmation through the Holy Ghost. So we are gonna keep trying! He is so close. Bruder and Schwester A made us some awesome spätzle (traditional German noodle/dumplings) this week - it was so good!

We also have been teaching E, the girl that our member brings to mutual with him. She is doing well.  We had a lesson with her on Thursday and it was pretty good. I think we are also meeting with her again this coming Tuesday.

I am doing great and loving Germany. I have an Aus-Tausch this week (an exchange with the elders in Esslingen). Actually that is tomorrow - so I will be in Esslingen with the District Leader, Elder Evans. Fun stuff! I sent you guys a package full of chocolate, so have fun with that. I have no idea when it will get there, but hopefully it won't melt!

Have fun in Cancun! I'm a little jealous, but then I remember I am in Germany - haha. Have a blast!  Love you guys so much, you da best. So blessed to have a family like you guys!

Mit Liebe,
Elder Ridd
