Guten Morgen Mütti! Hey Vater!
Life is going good in Schwenningen! I am doing well! The week was definitely pretty exciting! It was tons of fun and I love traveling to Munich and seeing all the awesome missionaries that I have known from the MTC and also from serving in the field. My new companion is Elder Wilkins, from Sandy, Utah. He has one younger brother who is about 13 years old. He just graduated high school before he came out here, so it is his first time really leaving home. He is pretty confident with his German, meaning he isn’t afraid to speak it. It was way sad to see Elder Plumb leave. He is a champ and I miss him already, but you know - mission life goes on. I am sure I can grow and serve with the companion I have now, so I am not too sad about it. E Plumb and I are convinced we will be able to serve together sometime in the future. We are both still young on our missions, so we will for sure see each other again.

This week, teaching-wise wasn’t the best, due to the fact that we had member appointments all of Monday and Tuesday for Elder Plumb (actually on Wednesday morning as well), then I headed to Munich on Wednesday, and Thursday I had training meetings and then got back at night. So our missionary work really started on Friday. We had a service project helping in a member’s garden, and then we got to teach Herr K for Elder Wilkins’ first lesson in the field. It went rather well! Then on Saturday we did service again - we got to move a member’s friend, and then we did weekly planning. So not too much teaching this last week, but we did teach Frau B this morning and had a great lesson. The other Elders were our Joint teach, so it was really good.

Yeah, all the introduction to the ward is over! E. Wilkins got to give his testimony and that went really well! I didn't teach a class or speak this week, but I will actually get to go to a school with Elder Abd El Moeti this week on Friday.  We get to speak to a full class about our religion, and after they will get to ask both of us questions about our church. So that will be pretty cool!

The cuckoo clock place was way cool! I definitely enjoyed it a lot. Today we will go to Rottweil and take some pictures of some pretty cool churches. That will be fun! Yes, we get to watch two games (World Cup). Naturally, we will be watching Germany vs. US this Thursday. We will actually be watching it with the ward in the ward building - haha. We watched one this last week with a member, Germany vs. Portugal, and Germany just walloped Portugal 4-0.

Love you tons! Thanks so much for all you do. You are the best!!!!! I miss you tons as well! The time flies, and we will get to Skype again before you know it! June is already almost over!

Mit meiner Liebe,
Elder Ridd

Transfer Calls & Birthday - 6/16/14

Birthday Cake!
Church with R (She also made the cake in the above pic!)

Hey Mama! Hey Pops!

I am doing wonderful. My birthday was way good! We celebrated throughout the week with different people, haha. The presents were also great - thank you so much. On my Bday, we had district meeting, and an Aus Tausch, so Elder Plumb was with me for only the first half. He made me breakfast and woke me up singing Happy Bday. Then we worked like normal, and at the end of the day we made that cake, sang, and had barbeque on our balcony. It was way good. Then yesterday, we celebrated with R.  She pretends she is our mom while we are away from home, so we got to have more cake and an amazing dinner as well. It was a two-part celebration: my bday and Elder Plumb leaving.

Today for Pday we're going to Triberg, the cuckoo clock place in the middle of the Black Forest.  And we have 2 eating appointments today because of the transfer call news! Elder Plumb is going to Graz, Austria and I get to train a new missionary! I am so excited! It will be an awesome experience, and I get to go to Munich and pick him up on Wednesday.

Yeah, Mom, you had the whole house of yourself! But that is crazy about Dad's trip. Sounds pretty exhausting! And yeah, spoil Pops for me!

NIce, that is way cool - I am so glad the Spurs won. That is awesome.

That sounds really fun about the Swamp Base. I thought that it would be a little longer than it was, but that is cool that they got home safe and also had an amazing experience out there. Haha - there are always tons of dirty clothes after camps and stuff, but good to hear it is taken care of now.

Church went really well! We had two investigators there, Frau B and R. So that was way good. E Plumb got to bear his leaving testimony which was awesome. The ward loves him so much and trusts him tons, and it's cool to see the impact he made on them. That is funny about the kids. We actually taught the 10 commandments to Frau B the other day. Look at us, Mama! Teaching the same lessons.

The accent is more Swiss here than in Tübingen. But it isn't too bad; I can understand like everyone now. There are only some words that I don't get, but if you ask someone they will gladly explain what a word means using different German words.

Frau B is doing awesome. We had another amazing lesson with her and she is close to baptism. She loves church and came for all 3 hours yesterday, which was way cool. R came for the last two hours, and we had a little party thing with her last night for my bday and for E Plumb leaving. We also met with E and he is doing well. He loves praying with us and talking about Christ. Sadly he is kinda a longshot for baptism, but hey he is progressing!

But yeah DL is a lot of traveling, not too much time working in my area which is the downside. I am excited to be able to work in my area this next transfer with a Golden! Elder Cavin will be the DL this next transfer!  I will get to meet the new President the third of July in Winterthur, Switzerland, so that will be really cool and I am really excited about that!

Love you tons, Mama and Pops! Dad, I hope you had an amazing Father's Day! I am so thankful for all that you do. You are seriously the coolest dad ever and the best example to all us boys. I am so thankful for the loving father that I have and for the excellent example you are. We all strive to be like you and follow in your footsteps. I love you so much, dude! Thanks, Mom, for the wonderful quotes! You are the best! Oh, if you can throw some Jolly Ranchers in the next package, Elder Cavin would love you, haha!
Love,
Elder Ridd

Almost Birthday & Goodbye to the Miles - 6/9/14

Bad Säckingen - the side over the bridge is Switzerland!
The Nägster (Elder Nägli) and me on Tausch
Duckface. Elders Plumb, Ridd and Nägli
Miles farewell conference in Singen for the Freiburg Zone
Hey there, Mama!
Thanks so much for the bday wishes! And the wonderful packages that you sent off to me! They are awesome! And hahah - blow up balloons for my own bday...thanks ahah. Maybe the cake! And yeah that was fun last bday when you came to Utah and I tried sushi again and my life was changed. Pretty weird how that was a year ago!

Not too many plans for Pday. Elder Robins, or now known as Bryan (formerly Elder Plumb's trainer) was here visiting the mission with his family. So we went out and got breakfast with them. Pretty weird to see someone who was just in the mission come back and visit with his family. But it was also way cool to see. His family was way nice as well!

Cool about Dad traveling all around. Must be interesting seeing so many cultures for him! And that is really way cool that the boys are already off on their adventure. It will be a blast! And Luke let me know that Hayd's in his crew. So that is also pretty cool! Sounds like a fun group and a really fun trip.

Church went really well today. Actually it was different because there was a European conference, featuring President Uchtdorf. It was really cool they spoke from Zollikofen, the area where the temple is in Switzerland. It was broadcast to our building, so we got to watch it with a ton of people there from the Singen ward. Frau B was also there and she got to hear them speak, which was really cool and neat! Sadly they did it in English and it was translated into German, because it was broadcast to all of the European church and it is easier to translate from English I guess. I really wanted to hear President Uchtdorf speak some German! But it was good nonetheless.

The investigators are doing well! From what I got to see of them, haha.  I was in Bad Säckingen when Elder Pyle and Elder Plumb taught A. But they dropped him, as he just wanted info more than wanting to seriously pray and find out it the Book of Mormon was really from God. So that was sad! And while I was on Tausch they also taught Frau B, although I was in Singen that time. But it went well - they went over baptism and she is pretty much ready; she just wants to tell her sisters and stuff before we set a date. We will meet with her tonight and see what the verdict is. R was pretty hard to contact this week, but we have an appointment with E this coming Thursday which is pretty cool!

Dr. S has been emailing me, and he seems to be doing good.

President and Sister Miles gave their Farewell conference to us this last week after we had Zone Training in Singen. It was pretty sad to see them say goodbye! He is such a great mission president. But it will be good to have a new President as well.

And the spiritual high for this week... hmmm. We had some really good lessons. I would say the best one was the lesson we had in Singen with a new convert named M. I was with the Zone Leader, Elder Mickelson, and we had a member from Singen there with us, and we taught her about the Restoration again and it went way well. It was cool to see the member there feel the Spirit and help us teach.

Awesome about all the people going on missions and receiving their mission calls! That is sooooo cool! Pretty interesting areas as well. That will be way cool for Garrett. And that is awesome about Josh!

The weather is pretty interesting here. It is pretty hot today! Definitely a change from what it has been like previously. But it is nice. Although the no A/C in Germany is kinda a killer. My clothes are doing well. The only thing I'd say I might need are a few more short sleeves. The summer is hot!!!!!!! Especially with no A/C.

We didn’t have District meeting this week due to Zone Training with the Miles. They said their final official goodbye to us all and it was pretty sad! But hey, the work goes on! I had a few Aus Tausches this week! The first one I was in Singen with Elder Mickelson. It was the Zone Leader Tausch; they happen once a transfer with the DLs. So that was pretty good! We got to teach a few lessons together! We had that on Tuesday, I came back to Schwenningen Wednesday, worked with my comp that night and Tausched to Bad Säckingen on Thursday and worked with Elder Nägli. That was also a really good Tausch, and then we tausched back in Singen on Friday, for Zone Training. So, lots of traveling! Busy week!

But I do not have to leave my area for the rest of this transfer for aus tausches. I have one last aus tausch this transfer with Elder Dooreman.  After District meeting tomorrow he will come back to Schwenningen with me and I will leave Elder Plumb in Schaffhausen. We will tausch back in Singen the next day on Wednesday! Pretty cool! And weird that we have transfer calls on Friday.

Thanks for everything, Mama! You are the best and I appreciate all that you do for me! Love you tons and I hope that you have an excellent week!
Love,

Eine Tolle Woche! (A Great Week!) 6/2/14

Elder Plumb bought an American flag
Pic of a small dwarf called Vöhringen, where 2 of our investigators live.

Hey!
I am doing well! And that is way cool, sounds like the scout Swamp trip will be tons of fun for Lukas and Hayden! And it looks like packing was also fun. I am sure Tex wanted to go with them, haha.  That is good that Dad saw the grandparents in Utah and they're doing well! That is awesome that Carmike is still kicking! That would be so sad if they went out of business while I'm away.

I did receive my birthday packages and opened them - but not the wrapped gifts! And I love all of the things, Mama! Thanks so much, you are the bestttt! Grandma Roz's package came this morning and that is sooooo nice of them to send me a package! They are soooo awesome!

So this week went pretty well. District Meeting was way good again! My district is just so cooool! We had district lunch, and the Schaffhausen Elders made us chili and we dipped some awesome Swiss bread in it. The Schaffhausen Sister missionaries brought dessert, and we brought the drinks.  Normally we have District Meeting every week and we meet in Schaffhausen, Switzerland every time. So that is way cool! I didn't have to run all over this week, which was good. I got to stay in Schwenningen and Elder Plumb went to Bad Säckingen. He worked with Elder Nägli, and I worked with Elder Pyle (from my MTC group). It was tons of fun and it was a really good exchange! All of us in Schwennigen are still getting along amazingly great, so we really want to all stay another transfer when calls roll around.

I am eating well! We had a really cool member appointment this week in Rottweil. We went there and he made us like way good German food. He served us white asparagus - which was good (but I like green better), as well as meat wrapped in bacon. He is a champ cook, that is for sure!

We did teach some lessons this week! We taught an investigator named A on Monday, which went well. He is Indian and we really taught in unity and answered all of his questions. He looks at things from a logical perspective, which makes it hard for him to have a lot of faith, but we are working on getting him to start praying.

We also met with another guy named Herr K. We found him while dooring, and he is way cool. He used to work in Taiwan, so he knows the Mormons from there. He loved the first lesson and we will meet with him sometime again this week.

We met with Frau B again....this lady is soooo cool! We taught her the Gospel of Jesus Christ and emphasized the importance of baptism. Then we popped the commitment after bearing powerful testimony about it being the right thing for her to do. She said she thinks she can get baptized on the 15th of June, but she has to check her calendar. Then she came to church and we had an awesome testimony meeting. We will meet with her again on Tuesday, where we think she  will make a baptismal date. Sadly, I will be on Tausch with a Zone Leader in Singen for her Tuesday appointment. But Elder Plumb and the other Zone Leader will be in that lesson.

Our investigator, R, is doing well. We also met with someone who lives in the same building she lives in, who is named E. He is kind of a gangster, but he loves Jesus. He is way interested in modern day prophets and the Book of Mormon and he wants to meet again. Of course, afterwards we went by on R and talked with her for awhile.

That's a lot of what we did this week. I'm definitely loving the work so much right now. Elder Plumb and I are so on the same page, and have the same desires and ambitions that it is a dream companionship. I don't think it gets better than this! We teach unified as well as with the Spirit there so it has been a blast. Today for Pday we will be headed to Singen to play soccer with some other Elders, so that will be fun. Of course I am bringing the ultimate frisbee.

I love you tons and I hope that you have a good week! You are the best and thanks for all that you do for me while I am out here!

Love you tons!
